Australians Studying Abroad (ASA)

ASA tours visit numerous countries around the world, exploring a varied range of themes from art, design, tapestry, architecture, gardens, literature, music and the interweavement and evolution of regional or national cultures over many centuries. What all tours share is a belief that learning is as much an act of imagination and experience as a garnering of information, and an assumption that an intimate relationship exists between geography, history and culture. ASA tours seek to give tour participants unique insights into different artistic and cultural traditions by travelling to the places where each tradition evolved, and tracing how climate, geography, demography and politics interact to create specific types of art and culture.

The physical experience of different landscapes, environments and peoples with their myriad colours and scents is the first step to understanding different cultures. ASA tours ask their participants to go a step further and use the present in combination with artefacts from the past to imagine the march of history or the context of a particular artistic genre. By travelling within specific countries or regions through varied urban and rural landscapes, many tours trace the routes of trade, demographic movement, and cultural exchange thus giving tour participants the opportunity to become part of the drama themselves.

The creation and classification of ASA Tours

All ASA tours are designed to enable you to:

• Use ASA tour handbooks, many of which are written especially for ASA tours by Australian, American and European academics. ASA handbooks are designed to give your explorations form and meaning by investigating the cultural landscapes through which you travel.
  
  
• Share enriching experiences with enthusiastic small groups (10 - 26 travellers)

ASA tours can generally be classified as:

• ASA Cultural Tours
  These tours are designed to provide guided explorations of different cultural landscapes and cross a range of disciplines and themes.
  
  
• ASA Photography & Travel Writing Tours
  These are interactive tours led by professional writers and photographers, who can help you to improve your photography and writing skills and capture the visual meaning of a place.
  
  
• University Credit Courses
  In association with many Australian Universities, ASA offers overseas credit courses in a broad range of areas to various destinations. These credit courses can be taken by university students and members of the general public for credit, professional development points, or for general interest. Enrolment Directions (including the availability to credit/ non-credit students) are specified within individual course/ itinerary descriptions.
  
  
• CAE Credit Courses
  In association with the CAE, ASA offers overseas credit courses in a range of areas to various destinations. These credit courses can be taken by CAE students and members of the general public for credit or for general interest. Enrolment Directions (including the availability to credit/ non-credit students) are specified within individual course/ itinerary descriptions.

To Make A Reservation

To make a reservation on an ASA tour, please complete the relevant ASA Reservation Form and forward this to Australians Studying Abroad together with your deposit ($500.00 AUD per person for ASA Cultural Tours or Photography & Travel Writing Tours; $350.00 AUD per person for University or CAE Credit Courses). Payment may be made by cash, cheque or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Diners). For further details refer to the 'Booking Conditions' applicable for the specific program you are interested in.
