ASA CELEBRATES 30 YEARS

ASA thanks all its travellers for thirty years of support!
In 2007 ASA celebrated a thirty-year journey. Before 1977 I had been teaching Art History at two universities, constantly asking myself two questions: 'How can Australian students feel the excitement of being part of world history?' 'How do I convey the richness, meaning and context of art works located in the faraway places our culture sprang from?' This is how ASA started, with a few university student tours to Europe. Australia has changed and so has ASA. Australia now must engage with the world to fulfil its role as a culturally rich and varied member of a global community. This challenge has given ASA a new sense of excitement and purpose. After thirty years we now explore the fullest possible range of cultures and environments on nearly every continent - and you, our many fellow travellers, form a community dedicated to exploring places in a vast variety of manifestations: art, architecture, archaeology, theatre and music, literature, customs and rituals, landscape and garden history - the list is endless because the possibilities are infinite.
