The Lure of Paradise: Visiting Writers in the South of France
Susannah Fullerton, literary tour leader and President of the Jane Austen Society of Australia presents talks about 3 writers - a Scot, an American and an Englishman - who visited and fell in love with the South of France
1.00-1.50pm Robert Louis Stevenson adored France and wrote one of the great travel books of all time Travels with a Donkey. Learn about the man, his travels in France and his famous book.
1.50-2.20pm Break
2.20-3.10pm F. Scott Fitzgerald came to France with his wife Zelda and lived the high life in Paris and the Riviera. It was in a luxurious
hotel there that he wrote his last book Tender is the Night.
3.20-4.10pm W. Somerset Maugham was so successful as a writer that he was able to buy a luxurious villa in the South of France. There he entertained artists and writers, lived the high life and wrote powerful novels and short stories.
