Talk, Tour, Tales and Tea at the Hotel Windsor, Melbourne

with Kenneth W. Park
Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th of August, 2014

ASA lecturer and tour leader, Kenneth W Park, in response to overwhelming demand has secured two more dates for an exclusive afternoon tour of Melbourne’s much loved Windsor Hotel. This majestic icon of the Victorian era on Spring St is a living expression of ‘Marvelous Melbourne’ in the 19th century. The original building was designed by the prominent colonial era architect, Charles Webb who was responsible for many other Melbourne landmarks such as the Royal Arcade and South Melbourne Town Hall. This special access tour for ASA will examine the architecture and interiors of this beautiful hotel as well as its place in Melbourne’s cityscape. The tour includes a viewing of the exterior of the building and inside will take in some of the fine function rooms, guest suites and much more. Kenneth will unravel the story of the hotel, bringing to life the Windsor’s colourful past as he shares tales of some of the famous and not so famous guests. The Windsor Hotel is to be restored to its former glory, and enhanced with the addition of new wings. This project is being undertaken by the distinguished architectural firm of Denton, Corker and Marshall. This will be a great opportunity to see the Windsor before its renewal and redevelopment program commences. Our visit will conclude with the celebrated Windsor High Tea in the Lounge.

  • Date: Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th August.
  • Time: 1:15 – 3.30 pm approx.
  • Cost: $70.00 per person includes talk, tour and full afternoon tea. (please note the Windsor afternoon tea normally priced at $69.00)
