The Colossal Art and Architecture of Egypt’s Boldest Pharaoh
presented by Lucia Gahlin
Ramesses II (c1279-1213 BC) is known to many as ‘Ramesses the Great’. He built extraordinary temples throughout Egypt (notably Abu Simbel and the Ramesseum), adorning them with colossal statues of himself and images of his wives, including the renowned Queen Nefertari whose tomb in the Valley of the Queens is arguably the most beautiful in Egypt. UK-based Egyptologist Lucia Gahlin will explore the art and architecture of this impressive reign and the achievements of this bold ruler in the golden age of Egyptian history.
